If you have not entered a specific address, but want to get an overview of the different SharePoint rooms, or your data in the SharePoint rooms. Here in this guide, we will introduce the individual Microsoft Sharepoint Login pages in the following text.
What is my SharePoint login?
The SharePoint login is no different from the rest of the Office 365 cloud applications. The basis of using this cloud tool depends on your personal usage. Your organization must have signed you the necessary licenses and rights to access the available SharePoint sites.
Therefore, only your email address and password are require to log in (for more details, see our Office 365 Login article). If no further security precautions have been taken, such as the multi factor authentication recommended by Microsoft and us. You will be able to open the SharePoint page you are accessing after successfully entering it.
SharePoint login as a different user
If you want to access SharePoint pages as another user, you must first log out of your Office 365 account. You can do this by clicking on your name or picture in the upper right corner.
Now you can call the destination address again and log in with a new user.
If you often need to switch between user profiles, we recommend using the new Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser. Both programs allow you to create multiple user profiles and thus switch between SharePoint and Office 365 users.
Microsoft SharePoint login and overview pages
SharePoint is an important building block in the Office 365 ecosystem. In our article “What is SharePoint,” we go deeper into the various uses of SharePoint. Due to the wide range of possibilities, there are also different entry points to the content that is store on SharePoint sites. In the next sections, we will show you specific customized login pages.
General home page of Office 365
A key use case is data storage on a SharePoint site (we have explored the use case as a document management system – DMS – in more detail in the article “SharePoint Document Management – What is it and how does it work?”.
Since every file that is store in the Microsoft 365 Cloud on a SharePoint page, www.office.com offers a possible entry point if you are looking for files.
On the one hand, you can see all accessible applications from the O365 world on this central hub and launch them directly.
On the other hand, the most relevant files from all SharePoint sites are display here directly.
If the file you are looking for is not display on the overview page, but you do not want to use the search. (which excellently searches the content of all files in the cloud). But instead want to access a SharePoint specifically.
At the bottom of the page, you find the most frequently visited SharePoint rooms directly access. OneDrive is also display separately here, which is also based on a SharePoint but represents the personal data storage location in contrast to the shared SharePoint libraries.
If you have already clicked on the SharePoint icon at the top. You will get to the next entry page, which we will look at in more detail in the next section.
SharePoint overview page – the central entry point
The SharePoint overview page https:// YOURCOMPANY.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx shows on a central page. All information to which you have access on the individual SharePoint pages.
On this page, the diversity of SharePoint becomes apparent. Not only the favorite pages and display recently open files, but also the latest news published on the pages.
If you miss some SharePoint rooms on this page, it is possible that you do not “follow” them. Via the star on each SharePoint start page, you have the possibility to follow it and thus save it as your favorite actively. These favorites are then prominently display on the SharePoint login page.
Without further ado, you can also search for the non-favorite pages under “more”. Here you will find an overview of all Microsoft SharePoint pages to which you have access permissions.
It is important to emphasize once again that on this Microsoft SharePoint login page. Only the information from pages to which you have at least read permission is displayed.
You can set this permission individually for each user on each page. Due to this permission system, there is a possibility that you will see a different overview than another user with different permissions.
If you want to create a SharePoint page, the next section describes how you can do this directly and without detours.
How can I create a SharePoint page directly?
At https://YOURCOMPANY.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/CreateGroup.aspx you have the possibility to create a SharePoint page directly.
Here you will be asked if you want to create a “Team Page” or “Communication Page.”
This decision is very important and not trivial because a later change is not possible. Therefore, we would like to show you the differences between the two variants briefly.
When creating a “Team Page,” the need for a common collaboration platform is in the foreground. An Outlook group with its full scope is created when the page is created in the background.
At the same time, other applications are create automatically so that joint collaboration can function smoothly and fully. You can find a more detailed overview in our article on Office 365 Groups.
In contrast, the “communication page” is aimed at pure information and not collaboration. As usual in the previous versions, a pure SharePoint page is created without a dedicated Office 365 group in the background when creating this page. As a result, there is no connection to other Office 365 applications.
The functionality of the two pages differs only in the navigation. Which is pinned to the top of the Communications page. As opposed to the navigation placed on the left side for the Teams page.
However, the integration of the Office 365 applications and in the web parts, the two variants do not differ.
The last SharePoint login page we would like to point out is still very new. And is aimed at a specific use case. This page is important, especially for companies with an intranet based on SharePoint.
SharePoint Homesite – The home page for the intranet
As described in our article “What is SharePoint,” SharePoint can also be used as a complete intranet. Microsoft sees here another important use case and therefore promotes this approach intensively in the last updates.
Through the new function of the homesite, it is possible to set up a SharePoint page as the start page for the company’s intranet. The administrator can set up each communication page as a home site. Once a page has been set as a home site, you can access this home page at www. YOURCOMPANY.sharepoint.com.
The multiple integration possibilities of the Office 365 environment and external sources enable the creation of a site. They are optimally tailored to the user, which simplifies the entry into the intranet and the access to the knowledge of the company.
A pure Microsoft SharePoint login page does not exist in the classic sense.
However, there are various purpose-adapted entry points into the SharePoint world.
Therefore, our recommendation is:
- If you are looking for a specific file on a SharePoint page, use office.com as the entry page.
- If you are looking for a specific SharePoint page, you can find it at https:// YOURCOMPANY.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx.
