Today we are going to show you how to change default search engine in Chrome. Both in its version for your smartphones and in the one dedicated to computers. Being a browser designed by Google, by default, it is your search engine that you have configured. But, with a small adjustment, you can use Bing or any of the many alternatives to Google that you have available.
The Chrome search bar serves two things. If you type a complete web site address, you will go directly to that website. But if you type only words, it will search them directly in the search engine that you have configured as the default search engine. And you can change it anytime as you wish. Let’s see how to change
Change the default search engine on PC
Step 1. In the desktop version of Chrome, the mechanics are practically the same. First, open the Chrome menu by clicking on the icon of the three dots (1) that you have on the top right. And when the menu displays, click on Settings (2) to access the browser settings.
Step 2. When you’re on the Google Chrome browser Settings screen, now you have to look for the Search engine option used in the address bar. To its right is a drop-down tab, and if you click on it, all the search engines that you have installed in the browser will appear.
Step 3. And if there is a search engine that you want to use and you don’t see it on the list, you just have to enter its website. As you see in the capture, when you enter search engines like DuckDuckGo. You will see the option to add DuckDuckGo to Chrome. Just click on it, and you will install the search engine so that it starts to appear from now on the Chrome list.
How to change on your mobile
Step 1. When you’re using the mobile version of Chrome, the first thing you have to do is display the options menu. At first, click on the icon of the three points you have in the upper right of the screen.
Step 2. You will see a drop-down menu with several options. Go down through them and click on the Settings option that you will have just below all about the help and suggestions. It will enter the Chrome settings menu.
Step 3. When you enter the Chrome settings menu, tap on the Search engine option. It is just the first one that will appear on the list, and you will have it in the Basic category.
Step 4. You will see a screen like the one you see on the screen. In which you will be listed all the search engines that you have added to Chrome. All you have to do here is, click on the search engine you want to use. And it will automatically become the one that Chrome uses by default.
Step 5. If you want to use a search engine that is not listed, you just have to visit their website. For example, you see in the capture that we enter the DuckDuckGo website. Where it automatically asks you if you want to Add DuckDuckGo to Chrome. Pressing in this case on the option to add will appear in the list of search engines the next time you enter it.
