Find one lost AirPod on map location
The “Find My” you can use the feature under an iOS device, as well as iCloud.com. The AirPods are displayed in a list, like all other Apple devices. Clicking on the respective device allows you to use further functions (e.g. send sound) – no matter if the AirPods have been lost or you just misplaced them, this feature is very useful. Before we start, here are a few basic conditions for the search:
The last known location is displayed if the AirPods are turned off or empty. It will display only the location of one AirPod at a time. If you have found one, then put it back into the case. Then reload the card, and the second AirPod will be displayed.
Your AirPods are not connected or empty?
If your AirPods are not connected or have been disconnected for a long time (out of range or because the battery is dead), then it will display the last known location. If you lost the AirPods and they were still connected and had power at the time, then you will almost certainly still be able to find the AirPods at that location.
However, if the AirPods were already empty when you lost them or if there is no other Apple device nearby that can display the location, then it will almost certainly be difficult to find the AirPods again via Apple’s services. The “Find My?” app or the iCloud page are the only ways to find the AirPods in case of loss.
Find one lost AirPod: Other Apple users help out
The “Find My” app has already been able to locate the AirPods before. However, only as long as they were within Bluetooth range of the paired iOS device or Mac. You could only see the location where it last established the connection at longer distances. After the AirPods update, things are different, and you can find the headphones even if someone has taken them.
That’s because once you enable search, millions of iPhones and other Apple devices will help you, transmitting the AirPods location when the headphones are within their Bluetooth range. If you’re close, you can get an indicator to guide you to your headphones – similar to AirTags, but not quite accurate since there’s no UWB involved.
In addition, you can activate the “Lost Mode” and report your AirPods as lost in iOS 15. After storing your contact data, the honest finder can write or call you. In addition, this should make it possible to bind the headphones to your Apple ID, making it more difficult for thieves to set up and use the AirPods on a new device.
How do you get the AirPods update?
Unfortunately, you can’t easily install the firmware update for your AirPods manually. Instead, the update will happen automatically at some point when the headphones are in the charging case and near your paired iPhone. Therefore, most users usually do not even notice that their AirPods have received an update. You can check the status of your AirPods firmware on your iPhone under: “Settings > General > About > AirPods“. To do this, you must pair the headphones with your phone.
